Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a high quality Electro Voice RE-15 cardioid dynamic microphone made in 1970 as shown on the serial number and made in Buchanan, Michigan. It comes with the E.V 307 shock mount and short cable shown. This is going to be a great addition to any studio set up you might have.
Pic # 2 shows the mics characteristics from an old E.V advertisement. The 1970 model was one of the very first years that this microphone was made and was a favorite model for the late Elvis Presley while performing live in concert as seen in pic # 2.
The RE-15 is a very desirable mic for use with vocals or any type of broadcasting. One of the finest dynamic cardioid mics made during the 1970's - 1990's and still very sought after even today for it's excellent sound characteristics. Lite weight and built like a tank. These mics rarely ever fail and have very good output. The RE-15 came with the bass drop off switch as seen in pic # 10 which allows you to give the mic more or less bass depending on the situation and the tone of your own voice.
A superb microphone all around and if you are a singer...you're gonna love this model. Easy to hold and superb uni-directional characteristics.
This microphone has been thoroughly cleaned and tested and you can see the mic is in very good physical condition. Just lite scratches and scuff marks on the original painted body. There are zero dents or fractures and the E.V label looks very good and completely legible. The XLR pins were cleaned as well for a perfect connection once the cable is attached.
The chrome mesh screen is very nice too with no discoloration, odor or deformation. Mic has a new inner foam pop filter that's in fantastic shape to help with sound characteristics. Cuts down on unwanted "pops" from breathing to close or windy conditions.
The mic takes a standard XLR cable which is included. It's short (9 inches) so that it plugs into the mic while on the shock mount but allows you to attach a longer cable only when needed. It's just more practical really. Cable is balanced so any longer XLR cable will work. It's soft, pliable and has two quality Switchcraft connectors.
The RE-15 does come with the E.V
307 model shock mount that is in very good physical and excellent operating condition. This older shock mount allows you to suspend the mic giving it better protection from unwanted feedback while live. You can either screw this adapter onto any desk or floor stand or simply suspend it from above with a boom arm. A very practical adapter.
The 307 is an all metal design made of aluminum so it's rugged and lite weight. The original paint looks quite good with typical lite wear in the form of small scratches and scuff marks. Just a few tiny paint chips. The mic clip is suspended by 2 rubber bands that are in excellent shape. The clip grasps the mic and cable nicely with plenty of tension.
Overall this mic is physically a true 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 while the shock mount is just slightly nicer. A very fine looking RE-15 that works like new and will get the job done. This is an American mic that will continue to rise in price as the years go by. No longer made and far better quality than many dynamic cardioid mics made today.
