The American Microphone Company was one of the early small manufacturers of electro-acoustic devices in the U.S., originally was based out of Los Angeles and later moved operations to Pasadena, California.A list of U.S. Microphone manufacturers published in 1937 shows American had over 20 different mics in production, including dynamics, crystals, carbon and condenser models.
Offering this
vintage late 1930's American Microphone Company Model B-9
. A working unit...you would be hard-pressed to ever find another one like it. This all chromed beauty does have some mild chrome pitting (let the photos be your guide) but overall is very presentable, and has been thoroughly cleaned. The American Microphone Company badge is still intact on the back of the mic head. This unit was designed to either be handheld, or used as a desktop microphone...(the handle separates from the base with a one-half turn.) This mic was was produced under license from Brush Development Company which furnished the crystals for most of the early companies that used crystal pickups. Typically with crystals, the original element was long dead, so we have replaced it with an Astatic moving coil pickup that can be used with any modern amplifier system, and
now producing strong output
while still holding that vintage sound. The on-off slide switch on the handle functions normally, and a new 3' cable has been re-wired with a standard 1/4" male phono plug.
